Then a homeless boy outside saw her collapsing through the rain-covered glass.
He sprinted inside.
The manager screamed at him to get out, but the boy ignored everyone and grabbed the woman just as she stopped breathing.
One powerful thrust.
Nothing.
Second thrust—
a diamond ring flew out onto the plate.
The entire restaurant went silent as the woman gasped for air again.

Then she looked up at the boy… and froze.
Because hanging from his neck was the exact same necklace her daughter disappeared with years ago.
“…where did you get that?” she whispered.
The boy stepped back slowly, rain dripping from his hair.
“My mom said you’d recognize it.”
The woman’s face lost all color.
And the ring slipped from her shaking fingers.
