Then—
an elderly woman stepped into their path.
Old coat.
Tired eyes.
Gentle voice.
“It’s cold… wear your coats.”
The girlfriend rolled her eyes instantly.
“Mind your business, you sick old woman.”
Silence.
The woman lowered her gaze and quietly stepped aside.
The wind blew harder between the buildings.
But then…
the girl realized her boyfriend hadn’t moved.

He was staring at the old woman.
Completely frozen.
Eyes suddenly filled with emotion.
Slowly, he walked toward her.
Took her trembling hand carefully.
“Don’t be upset, Mom… I know what I’m doing.”
The girlfriend went pale.
“Mom…?” she whispered.
The old woman slowly lifted her eyes toward the girl’s face.
Then quietly said:
“So… this is the one who humiliated me.”
The boyfriend turned toward his girlfriend—
his expression no longer recognizable.
