Reporters lined the walls with cameras ready.
Expensive lawyers sat perfectly still behind polished oak tables.
The judge adjusted his glasses.
Papers slid softly across marble.
Then—
BANG.
A courtroom door slammed violently open.
Every head snapped toward the entrance.
A frightened little girl burst inside clutching a torn backpack against her chest.
Her shoes squeaked across the marble floor as two security officers chased behind her.
“Wait!”
The entire courtroom erupted in confused whispers.
At the defense table, a wealthy businessman slowly turned—
and instantly lost all color in his face.
The girl pointed directly at him with trembling fingers.
“Don’t let him lie again!”
Silence crashed across the courtroom.
The man’s attorney stood abruptly.
“Your Honor—”
But the little girl was already running down the aisle.
Straight toward the witness stand.
Reporters lifted phones immediately.
The businessman stood halfway from his chair, panic spreading across his face.
The girl stopped inches from him.
Breathing hard.
Crying.
Then slowly pulled something from her backpack.
An old cassette recorder.
Scratched.
Broken.
Familiar.
The man froze completely.
“No…”
The girl’s lip trembled violently.
“Mom said you’d try to hide this.”
The courtroom fell deathly silent.
The little girl pressed PLAY.
Static exploded softly through the courtroom speakers.
Then—
a terrified woman’s voice crackled through the recording:
“If anything happens to me… tell them Daniel Mercer killed his own brother.”
Gasps exploded around the room.
The businessman stumbled backward like he’d been hit.
One attorney dropped his pen.
A reporter whispered:
“Oh my God…”
The little girl stared directly into the businessman’s horrified eyes.
“You told everyone my mommy was crazy.”
The man’s breathing became uneven.
Broken.
Panicked.
Then suddenly—
the cassette crackled again.
A second hidden voice whispered through static:
“Daniel… the child is still alive.”
The businessman’s face completely collapsed.
