After years away, I came home to find my mom treated like help in the house I bought, while my brother lived like the owner. She didn’t even recognize me… so I made a call that changed everything….
For five long years, I worked myself to the bone in the Japanese shipyards, eating rice balls and drinking tap water, driven by a single purpose: to buy a villa for my mother to enjoy her old age in peace.
But when the iron gates opened, it wasn’t my mother who greeted me. It was Colin—my good-for-nothing brother—stumbling out in a silk robe, smelling like a hangover.
“Brother Paul! What a surprise!” Colin lunged forward to hug me, reeking of expensive cologne and stale alcohol. “Mom… Mom is resting in her room. She’s been very senile lately, doesn’t want to see anyone.”

I looked around. The velvet sofa Mom loved was gone, replaced by cold, flashy leather furniture. Her beloved hydrangea garden had been bulldozed to make way for a swimming pool. A knot of dread tightened in my stomach.
“Move,” I shoved Colin aside and walked straight inside.
“Wait, Paul! Don’t go in there!” Colin and his wife scrambled to block my path.
I pushed open the kitchen door. The scene before me shattered my heart into a thousand pieces.
A skeletal, gaunt woman was on her knees on the cold tile floor, scrubbing grease stains with trembling hands. She was wearing a ragged, oversized maid’s uniform.
“Mom?” I whispered, my voice choking.
She turned slowly. Her eyes, once bright and mischievous, were now cloudy and filled with terror. She looked at me, then darted a fearful glance at Colin standing behind me.
“Master… I’m almost done scrubbing… please don’t punish me… please don’t take away my dinner…”
My blood boiled. She didn’t recognize me. She thought she was a servant in her own home.
I turned to Colin, grabbing him by the collar and growling through gritted teeth:
“What did she just call you? Master?”
Colin’s face went pale as a sheet. “Paul, let me explain…”
I pulled out my phone. “Save it. You will pay a heavy price…”….
We were genuinely moved by this one. Comment ‘GLAD’ and the full story is right there in the comments.
